Bulgaria v England
19.15, Friday 2nd September 2011, Vasil Levski Stadium, Sofia.
England head to Bulgaria under pressure to secure a victory that would go a long way to securing their place at next summers Euro 2012 Championships. Having dropped points at home to Switzerland and Montenegro, Fabio Capello’s men need to win to give themselves a bit of breathing space going into the final games of the campaign.
Early team news suggests that Andy Carroll may start up front ahead of Wayne Rooney, but Capello has a number of options available to him and could opt to play with two wingers and look to attack Bulgaria with pace down the flanks. Ashley Young would feel hard done by not to start and Theo Walcott will probably play on the other side. The next choice for Capello is then who to play in central midfield. The midfield options would probably lean towards a 4-3-3 formation for Capello, with Frank Lampard and Scott Parker playing in fron of Gareth Barry, who has started the season in fine form. At the back Joe Hart will play in goal, Ashley Cole at left back with John Terry and a choice of Phil Jones, Phil Jagielka or Gary Cahill to partner him and either Micah Richards or Chris Smalling at right back, with Capello looking set to favour the City player. A strong line up, despite the absences of Jack Wilshere, Steven Gerrard and Rio Ferdinand, and England should be looking to record a comfortable win ahead of next week’s home game against Wales.
England team SYS would pick: Hart – Richards, Cole, Terry, Cahill – Barry, Parker, Lampard – Walcott, Young, Rooney
Dom’s Tip: England to win by three or more goals is 4/1 with Skybet.
