Tuesday’s Champions League Preview
Round Two of Champions League Group Stage games sees some mouthwatering ties this week with Bayern Munich, winners of the competition in 2001, taking on Manchester City at the Allianz Arena in what is surely the pick of the ties. Real Madrid take on Ajax and troubled Inter Milan travel to CSKA Moscow for a daunting looking tie. The pick of the rest is Manchester United who host Basel and Napoli taking on Villareal. As always with the Champions League it is tough to find value but a four fold that really stands out is Real Madrid, CSKA Moscow, Manchester United and Napoli all to win at home, returning 5/1 with Skybet. Bayern Munich against Manchester City is a very tough call but Bayern are not the force they once were, and Mancini’s men can capitalise on this despite their relative lack of experience in the competetion. At general odds of 100/30, City are surely worth a few quid to overcome their German rivals, particularly with the form they’re in. Benfica and Lille are other teams I would speculatively tip to win away from home and if you include those two in a treble with City you’d get nice looking odds of 14/1.
There is value out there if you look closely and with Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez wouldn’t it be typical of Dimitar Berbatov, who still oozes class, to grab the first goal and prove his worth to Sir Alex Ferguson at 4/1. A hat-trick is on the market at 25/1 and I don’t think suggesting putting a spare pound or two found down the back of the sofa is unreasonable.
