Tuesday’s Champions League Preview
The Champions League rolls back into town after a few weeks off and yet again there are plenty of games to whet the appetite. The big game involving English sides is at The Etihad Stadium as Manchester City face a must win game against 2006 semi-finalists Villareal. City are boosted by the return of Sergio Aguero as they look to put the Munich debacle behind them and kick start their campaign. The bookies seem sure City will register their first win and put them at 3/10 and with The Yellow Submarine losing key personnel such as Santi Cazorla in the summer it’s hard to disagree with them. The handicap bet of City at -1 looks a good price at even money and to lead at half time and full time is generally available at at the same price. Both markets we’re tempted to have a play as this is simply must win for Mancini’s men with tough games on the horizon.
The red half of Manchester travel to Champions League debutants Otelul Galati also knowing they need to win following two draws in their opening games. There seems little doubt they will record the win they need, particularly with Wayne Rooney and Nemanja Vidic set to start. United to score 2+ in the first half is a nice looking 21/10 with Skybet and Nemanja Vidic is worth a speculative bet to score first at 20/1 on his return to the side. United and City should both win their games comfortably at short prices so for coupon chasers it’s best to look elsewhere.
Inter Milan are suffering in Serie A with just one win in six games but look exceptional value at 11/4 to pick up three points away against Lille who have struggled to get their foot in the door so far in Group B. Bayern Munich are another side who have been going along nicely and looked very impressive in their win against City. They can do the business in Naples tonight at 5/6 and this sets up a nice double with Inter at around 11/2. Benfica have looked a good side as well and with them in the equation 13/1 is an excellent price. There is plenty of value out there this evening in what promises to be an intriguing night across Europe. Champions League stalwarts Lyon travel to Madrid to face Real and Dinamo Zagreb host Ajax in Group D so all in all neutrals, and fans of both Manchester clubs, have a night to look forward to.
